Agroclimatic zoning for urucum crops in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil Bragantia
Aparecido,Lucas Eduardo de Oliveira; Rolim,Glauco de Souza; Moraes,José Reinaldo da Silva Cabral de; Rocha,Hélio Gallo; Lense,Guilherme Henrique Expedito; Souza,Paulo Sergio.
ABSTRACT Hardier crops are needed in the arid regions of the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, and annatto (Bixa orellana L.) is a good candidate. Producers, however, do not know if their areas are suitable for its cultivation and so are not investing in its implementation. Agroclimatic zoning would provide guidance to the producers. Identifying potential areas for the production of this crop would thus contribute to the agroclimatic zoning of B. orellana in Minas Gerais. We collected data for air temperature and precipitation from 852 meteorological stations in the state to classify regions as suitable, marginally suitable, or unsuitable for the crop. Suitable regions had an air temperature between 22 and 27 °C and precipitation between 800 and 1600...

Cotton zoning based on sowing periods of lower risk in Parana state, Brazil BABT
Wrege,Marcos Silveira; Caramori,Paulo Henrique; Gonçalves,Sergio Luiz; Almeida,Wilson Paes de; Marur,Celso Jamil; Pires,José Ricoy; Yamaoka,Ruy Seiji.
Cotton is cultivated in the North and West of Parana State, southern Brazil, under conditions of climatic risk variable in space and time. Risks of temperature below 15ºC at the establishment period, daily average temperature below 20ºC at the stage of cotton boll opening, and soil water deficit for both plant establishment and flowering periods, were estimated to identify homogeneous zones with sowing periods of lower climatic risk. The time interval with adequate temperature, associated with minimum risks of the other factors and yield data from field experiments allowed the identification of seven distinct zones, with best sowing periods ranging from September 20 to November 20. Official credit to the farmers is conditioned by the Central Bank of Brazil...

Instruments Reducing Climatic Risk for Russian Agriculture AgEcon
Sannikova, Marina; Bukusheva, Raushan.
The paper evaluates technical solutions and two main tapes of index-based insurance: area yield insurance and weather-based index insurance regarding their efficiency in reducing climatic risks of Russian farms in the steppes zone. The analysis considers area yield insurance at two levels of aggregation - oblast and rayon (county) level. Weather-based index insurance products are drawn up by combining two weather parameters - daily precipitation and daily average air temperature. We employ yield and weather data of an experimental station in the Central Volga Russia for the period from 1979 to 2000. In addition experts' assessments are used to specify alternative levels of production technology and respective yield distributions for the considered region....

New agroclimatic approach for soybean sowing dates recommendation: A case study AGRIAMBI
Battisti,Rafael; Sentelhas,Paulo C..
The objective of this study was to introduce a new approach to recommend sowing dates for soybean crop in Brazil, considering the climatic conditions and crop yield. The first step was to define the periods when air temperature is smaller than 40 °C and greater than 1 °C in at least 80% of the years, and with at least 60% of relative crop evapotranspiration during the establishment phase in more than 50% of the years. The actual yield of crop was estimated by FAO Agroecological zone model for the suitable sowing dates. Based on that, when actual yield overcome the production cost in more than 80% of years and mean air temperature along the cycle is between 20 and 30 °C, the sowing date is classified as suitable, but if actual yield overcome the production...

Potential area and limitations for the expansion of rainfed wheat in the Cerrado biome of Central Brazil PAB
Pasinato,Aldemir; Cunha,Gilberto Rocca da; Fontana,Denise Cybis; Monteiro,Jose Eduardo Boffino de Almeida; Nakai,Alan Massaru; Oliveira,Aryeverton Fortes de.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to locate and quantify, through geotechnologies, areas that are currently used for annual agriculture in the Cerrado biome of Central Brazil, located within the boundaries defined by the homogeneous region of adaptation of wheat cultivars 4 and that present favorable conditions for rainfed wheat (Triticum aestivum) cultivation. The following information layers were crossed: use and coverage of the Cerrado biome, digital elevation model, and water requirement satisfaction index for wheat in the Cerrado biome. In addition, different levels of water stress (low, moderate, and high), risk levels (20, 30, and 40%), available soil water capacities (ASWCs) (35, 55, and 75 mm), cultivar cycles (105, 115, and 125 days), and...

Soybean-corn succession according to seeding date PAB
Garcia,Rodrigo Arroyo; Ceccon,Gessí; Sutier,Guilherme Afonso da Silva; Santos,Anna Luiza Farias dos.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the grain yield of soybean and corn cultivars cropped in succession, in different sowing dates. The experiment was carried out in the municipality of Dourados, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, during three growing seasons, in the sowing dates: 9/15, 10/1, 10/15, and 11/1 for soybean; and 2/1, 2/15, 3/1, and 3/15 for corn. Although soybean yields are strongly affected by the crop season, sowing between late September and early October results in higher long-term yields. Planting corn in succession in mid-February provides the highest grain yield in the southern region of the state Mato Grosso do Sul; therefore, there is no need for an early soybean sowing in September, in order to ensure corn...
